How do i meet and make new friends online that arent shady?

I want to have people to talk to online Im a bit of a goofball so i need to talk to people with good sence of humour are there any sites ppl reccomend to make new friends

10. I'd try looking up message boards for people with your specific likes! Usually they are all sincere people that you can get to know and laugh with.
11. Maybe on myspace or facebook? Sometimes you can reconnect with old friends and meet new ones.
12. There is no way to tell which people online are shady or not. Just hold a nice conversation but don't give out any of your personal info and don't answer any weird questions.

20. from experience, anyone you meet online NO GOOD. i mean itscommon for everyone to have a myspace, be on youtube. ect. BUT IF PPL ONLINE ARE LOOKING FOR DATING, FRIENDSHIP, SEX. THEIRS GOT TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM. im my opinion and by experience. Best was to meet friends is at work, school (college), park, gym ect. NEVER ONLINE!
21. theres pervs everywhere, since predators arent allowed near schools they have to go elsewhere (the internet) best bet meet people in real life then talk to them online or else its some 40yo guy who cant get it up for his wife

35. There are always shady people wherever you go; in and out of the net. If you're looking to make new friends, why don't you join a forum or a community which shares your interests.

38. there are always creepers and shady people around, if you want we could discuss it later in my windowless van.. hahaha totally kidding, I don't know, play it smart, facebook and myspace are the 2 most popular, look for friends that have lots of other friends, that way if they are a creeper, you will most likely see someone call them a creep sooner rather than later, and then the block button is just a few inches away.

40. SERIOUSLY, don't look for friends online. There are a ton of freaks looking to meet you. Think about an after school club. Your parents or guidance counselor can assist. I'm guessing you want to meet friends your own age, and I'm guessing you're young. You have to remember alot of people online will tell you they're your age and they are alot older. Not a good scenario.
41. never give personal information at firtst talk, try not to even introduce the fact, many times they'll ask you where do you live, LIE trust me it seems wrong and mean but its safe and never be to detail for example if you live in hamilton cananda and someone asks you and you DO NOT want to lie, DO not say hamilton cannda just leave it at CANADA. also dont belive theire age they may say 14 and may be 40 lol, one thing you can try is lie about your age to find out there age if there to old then say forget you if there to young say to bad, also if they say there around your age ask them some general questions that people your age can answer such as like school subjects or something like that at the end of the day never get to personal and never give out real or to much information
42. It is next to impossible. One site to try is Meetup.com It is for people to start groups with common interests. Anything from pets to boardgames to politics and everything in between. There is another activity one that I can't remember the name of. It's best to go to activities in your neighborhood that interest you. That way you meet people who live close and have similar interests. Of course, they could be shady also. Best wishes.
43. Don't be shady, you won't get shady. You know, trust is given it's almost never earned. Maybe if you make your boundaries a little higher, that may help. I don't know, I'm kinda a goofball myself.
44. This website!!! WOOOOOO! GO YAHOO ANSWERS!!! You can talk to me, or anybody that has e-mail or IM on their profile! Some other websites are facebook, myspace, meebo, arcadebliss, aol, msn, and a lot of others. I'm not funny when it comes to jokes, but I'm a laughaholic, and a lot of people laugh when I get into one of my famous laughing fits! It's really hard to avoid mean disgusting people online, so go somewhere that has an automatic moderator, or something. When you say "meet" I hope you don't mean it literally, because that's really dangerous. It's so easy to lie and manipulate people online, so be careful. Don't give any personal information away. But, I like talking to people in real life much better than online.
45. If you enjoy computer games, a good website is Pogo.com. There are lots of games with rooms organized by age range and topics. There is a chat panel alongside of the games, and you can play and hop into conversations to which you might have something to contribute. I've made several fast friends through this website - and, wihle it's usually not a safe practice, have actually met a couple of them: one woman who lives in a neighboring town and a couple from MN who went to Vegas the same week as me. Sure, there are scum everywhere, but on Pogo you can report anyone who chats inappropriately and they will lose their permission to use the website. There are uncensored rooms for those who want to be "rough and ready," and that also keeps more of the predators out of the other rooms. If nothing else, you can pass time entertaining yourself as you surf the games and rooms within a game with an eye towards meeting people who share your sense of humor, etc. I've only had one bad encounter in the 5 years I've used the site. You have the ability to add a player's screen name to your "friends" list and then blocking him/her so the person can't stalk you (can't see when you're on line); you can also use that list to find again people whose chat you've enjoyed (by adding them to Your friends list). Bottom line, avoid anyone who gives you a sob story and wants money, etc. and don't agree to meet anyone until you've had lots of online interaction sufficient to be able to judge their character. Even then, if you plan to meet, meet in a public place - and don't go alone. You can have good friends without having to be with them off-line. There's a place in our lives for both categories of friends.

I don't think there's anywhere you could go that guarantees you don't meet any "shady" characters but that's the same in life anyway... granted there's a lot more room for fabricating but I guess you should meet people on a forum to do with your interests, so at least you can narrow it down to like-minded people but it all comes down to judgement but mostly luck!!
